One year ago, a Beverly Hills estate called Villa Firenze sold at auction for $51 million. Now, it's back on the market with a major price hike: It's now listed at $121 million, per the Los Angeles Times.
What a ride for Villa Firenze!
In 2018, the estate had an asking price of $165 million. In 2021, biotech entrepreneur Roy Eddleman bought it for $51 million, per County Office records. And now, a year after Eddleman bought Villa Firenze, it's back on the market for $120 million, listing records show.
Eddleman's $51 million purchase broke the record for the most expensive home ever to sell at auction, Concierge Auctions CEO Laura Brady told the Journal. Digital auction house Concierge Auctions has auctioned off properties that include villas in Phuket, a historic inn in The Hamptons, and a Malibu waterfront compound.
Villa Firenze's record has since been broken by Fashion Nova's founder, Richard Saghian, who bought a Los Angeles mega-mansion at auction for $141 million.
The 10-acre estate features a 20,000-square-foot mansion, three guest houses, a swimming pool, and tennis courts.
Hungarian-born billionaire Steven Udvar-Hazy bought the property nearly 30 years ago and built the main residence in the late 1990s, per Mansion Global.
The airplane-leasing billionaire, who's currently the chairman of Air Lease Corp, is worth $4.3 billion, according to Forbes.
Udvar-Hazy assembled the current estate from three separate lots before putting it on the market in 2018 for $165 million.
After two years of trying to sell the estate, Udvar-Hazy put it up for auction in January 2021 with Concierge Auctions. The estate was auctioned with no minimum price, so Udvar-Hazy was obligated to accept the highest offer. A spokesperson for Udvar-Hazy's company did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment on the sale in April 2021.
"Many of the world's most desirable, coveted items are sold at auction — and like these, Villa Firenze is also a work of art in itself," Udvar-Hazy told Mansion Global in December 2020, when the January 2021 auction was announced.
Villa Firenze sits inside the exclusive gated community of North Beverly Park, which a 2013 Forbes article referred to as a "mansion-packed billionaire community."
Villa Firenze is accessed by its own private street, the listing shows. The gates open up to a courtyard that can accommodate 30 cars.
Rick Hilton, cofounder of Hilton & Hyland, which listed the property in 2021, told Mansion Global that the property offers "impeccable privacy."
The community can only be accessed by two guarded checkpoints, and the mansions all sit on large parcels of land surrounded by gates, per Forbes.
Stars like Denzel Washington, Sylvester Stallone, and Eddie Murphy have reportedly called the neighborhood home over the years.
The home has 13 bedrooms, 17 bathrooms, and eight half-bathrooms.
There are multiple formal and informal gathering spaces, five offices, a craft room, a video game room, and a gym.
The home is outfitted with vault ceilings, marble and stone floors, arched doorways, and multiple fireplaces.
Designed by architect William Hablinsky, the home was completed in 1998.
Villa Firenze's grounds are dotted with amenities such as a swimming pool and pool house, a tennis court, and guest houses.
A walking trail surrounds the estate, and the gardens have three fountains, per The New York Post.
