A clever feature in Volvo's XC90 makes loading cargo extremely easy
It's no secret that Volvo's XC90 is a great car.
It has won multiple awards, including the 2016 North American Truck/Utility of the Year, Motor Trend's 2016 SUV of the Year, and Business Insider's 2015 Car of the Year.
Now, there's a long list of things that make the XC90 so amazing.
For one, it's loaded with all kinds of safety features, including some of the best driver-assistant technologies like piloted driving and automatic braking. It's also decked out with a ton of tech savvy details, including a digital dashboard, a touchscreen infotainment system, and a heads-up display. And on top of all of that, it has great fuel efficiency and looks incredible.
But during a recent test drive around New York City, I noticed one simple feature that, to me, perfectly demonstrated why Volvo's XC90 is such a great car.
This feature was nothing fancy, but simply an alternate way you can open and close the tailgate.
You see, you can open the car's cargo door like you would with any other vehicle by pulling the handle. But you can also open and close the tailgate by simply kicking your leg underneath the car.
Now, I get that this is a small thing, but I love it because it shows just how much Volvo cares about the detail and functionality of its vehicles.
Unlike some automakers, Volvo isn't just loading tech into its cars for the sake of having it. The Swedish company is using technology to improve the driving experience and to fix real-world problems, like making it easy to open the tailgate when you have a kid in one arm and a bag on the other.
Good technology should be invisible, functional, and seamless. And this one small feature in the XC90 perfectly demonstrates that Volvo gets that.
