William Sheeran - Trivia, Family, Bio

Dentist best known as the grandfather of Ed Sheeran. Sheeran's song "Nancy Mulligan" was inspired by him. It tells the story of how he and his wife fell in love and married, despite their Catholic-Protestant divide. Sheeran said his grandparents had a "Romeo and Juliet romance."

He studied and practiced dentistry in London.

He melted all his gold teeth in his dental surgery and used the metal to make a wedding ring. Ed Sheeran said no one attended his grandparents' wedding.

Family Life

He met a nurse named Anne at London's Guy's hospital and they married in 1951. His son is John Sheeran. He has grandchildren named Ed and Matthew Sheeran.

His grandson co-wrote the song "Moments," which One Direction made famous.
